Chieftain Mk
The Chieftain Mk was a British main battle tank introduced during the 1960s and used throughout the Cold War. Designed with a strong emphasis on firepower and protection, it was armed with the powerful 120 mm L11 rifled gun, which gave it excellent long‑range accuracy against armored targets. One of the Chieftain’s most distinctive features was its heavily sloped armor, providing high protection while keeping the vehicle relatively low in profile. Although its engine was often criticized for limited reliability and mobility, the tank performed well in defensive roles. The Chieftain Mk family influenced later British tanks, most notably the Challenger series, leaving a lasting mark on armored vehicle design.
