B-26 Marauder
The B-26 Marauder was an American twin-engine medium bomber built for speed and efficiency. Introduced in the early years of World War II, it featured a sleek fuselage, tricycle landing gear, and powerful Pratt & Whitney radial engines that gave it a higher top speed than many of its contemporaries. Early on, the aircraft earned a reputation for being demanding to fly, mainly due to its high wing loading and fast landing speeds. With improved training and design refinements, however, the Marauder became one of the most reliable bombers in the European Theater. It carried a solid defensive armament and delivered accurate medium-altitude bombing runs against bridges, rail yards, and fortified positions. By the end of the war, the B-26 had one of the lowest loss rates of any American bomber in combat, proving that behind its tough reputation was a highly capable and effective aircraft.
