’20s Woody
The Ford Woody wagon of the 1920s was one of the earliest forms of the station wagon, built on the rugged Model T chassis. Its body was largely made of wood, not for style but for practicality: it was cheaper and easier to build than steel at the time. Originally intended for utility work—transporting goods, tools, or passengers in rural areas—it quickly proved versatile and reliable. Simple, noisy, and far from comfortable, the 1920s Ford Woody was a working vehicle first, but it laid the groundwork for the station wagons that would follow in later decades.
